Getting rid of your scrap car

If you have an old car that you desperately need to be shot of, then it can actually be quite difficult to do. A few years ago you would have found that if you could get your car to the scrap yard you would have left with a fair old wad of money in your hand, but these days that is rarely the case. On top of this, you will also find that the relatively new SORN declarations that you have to follow if your car is off the road will mean that you won’t legally be able to get your vehicle to the scrap yard driving it yourself. If your car is registered as being off the road then you will be committing an offence if you even try to drive it to the scrap yard! This obviously means that you have to get someone to come and collect your vehicle, and this will normally involve a company coming out with a tow truck which can be an expensive business. Most companies will normally charge you somewhere in the region of £100 just to agree to come and do this, and if you are a fair distance from the scrap yard then you can expect to pay even more.

This can obviously be quite a problem for some people, because if you are trying to get rid of your car then you are also probably trying to buy a new one. The last thing you want to have to do is spend money on your scrap car! Fortunately, if you are a bit clever about the situation there are ways in which you can make sure that you don’t pay anything, and you will even be able to help the environment into the bargain! If you search online you should be able to find a company that is able to collect your car for free. They have a fantastic scheme which ties up with scrap yards and the companies that will collect your vehicle. They will take your vehicle from your property and then use the money they make on the car from scrap metal or from a car auction, and they will give the profits to a charity of Your Choice!

All you have to do is pick up the phone, or go online and get in touch with the company. They will then want to know where you are and also which charity you would like to donate to. You will be able to select the charity from a list that appears on their website. Once this is done it is just a matter of waiting for the recovery company to come and collect your car, and you are done! You will have got rid of your car with absolutely no effort on your behalf, and you won’t have to give up some of the funds set aside for your new vehicle!
