How does the above quote apply to the French Revolution and Reign of the Napoleon? Give numerous examples as support.
So basically, liberty is a great idea, but it is difficult to obtain. During the French Revolution, the french government goes through a series of changes and trials as they are fighting for liberty. There were three constitutions that never made it. There was the national assembly that was created by the third estate that was created to work towards change together. They wrote the first constitution which was the Tennis Court Oath. Then there is a constitution of 1791. They never fixed the food shortage so it was dumped. The third constitution leads to a directory which is a five man executive, which is then followed by a three man executive power. These examples of the constant change of constitutions and powers led to a unsuccessful revolution. It was not easy to just up and start a country based on liberty because you need to be able to fix the problems the people had. None of the previous constitutions could ever really solve the problem, the main being a food shortage (another problem: debt from helping US).
As for Napoleon, the people loved Napoleon. He is the national hero. People believed he could lead them to liberty. However, that took a turn for the worst since he turned out to be pretty much a dictator that limited liberty in some of the clauses he created.
Basic gist: Too little structure and power hinders liberty’s growth, but too much power can also hinder liberty’s growth. Moderation, the US found it. The French failed to.
