Where’s the best place to buy cheap or Scrap Silver?

I want to start making small investments in sterling or other silver. Looking at new Chinese exports on ebay US, but weight isn’t mentioned – some pieces on there starting at 1c including freight, so I made a few bids, but really looking for ounces rather than grams.

The price of silver and of gold is the same all over the world. Silver currently trades at about $18.50 per ounce, but does go up or down every day. So, you pay the same for silver in London, as you would in New York or Peking (Beijing), China.

Someone who has scrap silver sells it to a dealer who melts it down for reuse, and the seller gets pretty much its value of the world silver price minus a processing charge. So there is very little chance for you to get a good bargain.

Be careful with auctions, especially if you have to pay the freight from a foreign country, especially China. Is what they are selling really 100% silver (.9999 fine)? I frequently bid on eBay auctions and thereby avoid the sometimes outrageous markups of dealers, but I would only buy it from my own country to avoid the high shipping charges.
